Coastal Flood Warning from the National Weather Service:
A COASTAL FLOOD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 8 PM EDT THIS EVENING.
Widespread minor with areas of moderate coastal flooding is likely around the time this evening’s high tide cycle (6pm). Storm force northeast winds of 40- to 50-mph with gusts to near 65mph today will produce a storm surge of 3 to 3 ½ feet. This, combined with strong wave action of seas climbing to around 25 feet across the MA coast, will produce extensive minor coastal flooding. Reporting at 12pm, the storm surge had risen to 3 feet at Boston and 2.3 feet in Nantucket.
Needless to say, I’m taking some sick time and heading home to move the library and our files upstairs. Too bad the washer & dryer can’t magically lift themselves a few feet off the floor. Everything else is in plastic tubs. The word at work is “Why haven’t we lost power yet?” combined with stories of the effects previous nor-easters have had on the local power grid.
